Gross annual salary₹7,59,169₹7,59,169
Employee PF (yearly)₹21,600₹21,600
Professional tax (yearly)₹2,400₹2,400

In-hand per year₹7,35,169₹6,78,662
In-hand per month₹61,264₹56,555

Assumptions behind these numbers

  • Annual CTC is ₹8,00,000, all of it fixed pay. No bonus or variable pay is included.
  • Basic salary is 50% of CTC and HRA is 50% of Basic. The rest of the gross is special allowance.
  • Employer and employee PF are each 12% of the ₹15,000 monthly statutory wage ceiling, not of actual Basic.
  • Professional tax is for Karnataka, a male employee.
  • Tax is for a salaried individual under 60, with the standard deduction only: ₹75,000 in the new regime and ₹50,000 in the old regime.
  • The old regime figure assumes no rent paid and no 80C, 80D or other deductions claimed. Claiming them would lower your tax.
  • Income tax is spread evenly over 12 months, as an employer's TDS would be. Surcharge is not modelled.

How this is calculated

  1. 1

    Start with CTC: ₹8,00,000

Cost to company: everything the employer spends on you in a year.

  2. 2

    Remove employer PF: - ₹21,600

The employer's PF contribution is part of CTC but never reaches your bank account.

  3. 3

Remove the gratuity provision: - ₹19,231

Set aside for gratuity. You receive it only on exit after the eligible years of service.

  4. 4

    Gross salary: ₹7,59,169

Basic + HRA + special allowance. Tax and your own deductions apply to this.

  5. 5

    Remove employee PF: - ₹21,600

Your own PF contribution, deducted from every payslip.

  6. 6

    Remove professional tax: - ₹2,400

State tax on salary, for Karnataka.

  7. 7

Remove income tax, new regime: - ₹0

Taxable income is ₹6,84,169 after the ₹75,000 standard deduction. No income tax is payable at this level.

  8. 8

In-hand per year, new regime: ₹7,35,169

    That is ₹61,264 a month.

  9. 9

Income tax, old regime: - ₹56,507

Taxable income is ₹7,09,169 after the ₹50,000 standard deduction. The Section 87A rebate does not apply at this level, so slab tax plus 4% cess is payable.

  10. 10

In-hand per year, old regime: ₹6,78,662

    That is ₹56,555 a month.

Frequently asked questions

What is the in-hand salary for 8 LPA?

About ₹61,264 a month under the new regime and about ₹56,555 a month under the old regime, using the assumptions listed on this page. The exact figure depends on how your employer structures the CTC.

Why is in-hand lower than 8 LPA divided by 12?

8 LPA divided by 12 is ₹66,667. In-hand is lower because CTC includes the employer's PF and a gratuity provision that are not paid monthly, and your own PF, professional tax and income tax are deducted from the rest.

Which tax regime gives more in-hand salary at 8 LPA?

Under these assumptions the new regime gives about ₹4,709 more a month (₹61,264 against ₹56,555). The old regime could come out ahead only if your claimed deductions are large enough, such as HRA, 80C and home loan interest.

Does this include bonus or variable pay?

No. The figures treat the whole CTC as fixed monthly pay. A bonus or variable component that is part of your CTC would lower the monthly figure, because it is paid separately and taxed when you receive it.

Will my payslip match this number?

Not necessarily. Salary structure, PF on actual Basic, state professional tax, insurance premiums, deductions you declare and other employer policies all change the result. Use the in-hand salary calculator to enter your own breakup.
